Seeing astrology as a map of the human psyche, this book is study about consciousness brought about in a laser-sharp, rational manner and connected to ancient spiritual traditions that can be applied practically in one’s life.
Compared to similar books, we will not overload the reader with an excessive number of pages, but we provide the essentials in a concise and systematic manner. Most astrology books do not provide sources, and are based on popular knowledge and speculation. The authors lean towards a scientific approach to spirituality. The statements in this volume are the results of years-long testing and are based on the most authoritative Sanskrit astrological texts.
The strengths and pathologies of each element are unraveled without casting judgment, which encourages the reader to think for themselves and build on this foundational knowledge.
The magic of the book resides in the fact that it can be read over and over, and, due to the archetypal wisdom preserved throughout the ages, will always deliver something new to the reader.

The book brings out astrological knowledge from ancient Sanskrit texts and presents it in an accessible and rational manner for the contemporary reader.
Our purpose is to bridge the gap between these two eras and deliver a more profound understanding of notions commonly used in Western astrology, while providing new information.
In this volume, we bring the focus to the signs, planets, houses and aspects. Each element is interwoven with another and the explanations include cross-references to astronomy, psychology and anatomy.
Throughout the pages, technical information is overlaid with personal commentary, derived from extensive astrological study and practice. The tables, graphs and example charts make the astrological journey visually-appealing and easy to follow.
The book is worth buying because more than providing a solid fundamental knowledge of astrology, it helps the person identify the vulnerabilities and core challenges in a chart. In short, it is a precious tool for self-exploration and development.

OUTLINE:
The preface presents the purpose of the book and gives an overview of the content. The introduction discusses the notion of Astrology and the growing interest around it. The first chapter Rasis: The Zodiac Signs starts by tracing the origins of the Zodiac, followed by the Vedic perspective illustrated by verses from ancient Sanskrit texts - Rig Veda and Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra - which the authors elaborate on. Then, the three chart types used to depict the Zodiac in Hindu astrology are introduced: North Indian, South Indian and Wheel. This is followed by describing several categories in which the signs are grouped by ancient astrological writings: body part, modality, nature, gender, Dosha, Guna, element, caste, direction, number of feet, night and day-strong, front and back-rising, Dhatu/Moola/Jeeva, size, colors. Each of the 12 signs are thoroughly analyzed in view of these categories. Then, Jaimini Upadesa Sutras, another fundamental astrological text, is used to illustrate the core challenge for each of the signs. The second chapter Grahas: The Planets begins with an explanation of the meaning of Grahas. Similarly to the previous chapter, several categories are used to describe them nature, gender, Guna, Sapta Dhatus, taste, elements, role, forms, gaze, brightness, dry/moist/wet and manifesting / separating. Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, North and South node are minutely described. The Outer planets are also described and linked to universal principles existing in the Vedas. This is followed by going through the planets in the signs: natural, temporary and combined relationships. The third chapter is named Bhavas: The Houses and starts by outlining astronomical principles which are the foundation of deriving meaning from these divisions. Bhavas can also be divided in several categories: Dharma/Artha/Kama/Moksha, Upachayas, Dusthanas, Marakas, Trikona/Kendra/Panaphara/Apoklima. Then, the meanings of the 12 houses are explained, followed by an explanation of Bhavat Bhavam. The fourth chapter showcases several types of Aspects. Rasi and Graha aspects are typical to Vedic astrology, while the Tajika-derived (major: conjunction, opposition, trine, square, sextile and minor: quincunx, semi-sextile, semi-square) are the ones used by modern Western astrologers. |
